Candied Cherry Cookies are a wonderful addition to your Christmas cookie tray. A delicate vanilla cookie studded with a sweet candied cherry is as delicious as it is beautiful. These festive cookies are easy to make too!
Candied Cherry Cookies are yet another cookie you can make from my basic Vanilla Cookie Dough Recipe. The red and green candied cherries that adorn these tasty vanilla cookies make for a festive display, and they are scrumptious too! These simple cookies are easy enough to make with the kids and everyone will enjoy eating them!
To make these fun and festive cookies you need 1/5th of my Vanilla Cookie Dough, some candied cherries, and a little powdered sugar. You simply divide the dough into 24 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Place balls on a parchment lined cookie sheet and press a candied cherry into each dough ball. Simple enough for the kids!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Divide 1/5th of my Vanilla Cookie Dough Recipe into 24 pieces and roll into balls. Place balls 1" apart on parchment lined cookie sheet.
Gently push a candied cherry into the center of each dough ball.
Bake for 7-9 minutes until the cookies start to brown slightly around the edges. Allow to cool on pan for a minute and then transfer to a wire rack and cool completely. When cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!
haha I know! It's crazy how many cookies it makes and it really is endless! You are only limited by your imagination with this dough! Thanks so much, Rachael! You always make my day with your kind words :)
These cookies generally don't spread very much, so it's surprising they would turn out flat. Do you leave them rolled in a ball and gently push the candied cherry into the round cookie dough ball? They should not be rolled out.
Another issue when baking cookies could be your oven temperature. I had an oven that didn't have the best insulation, and the temperature would vary wildly. I wasn't able to make any cookies in that oven as they would all turn out flat - almost bottomless as a result of the inconsistent oven temperature.
This recipe also uses confectioners (powdered) sugar. If you used granulated sugar by accident it would negatively affect how the cookies turn out.
Those are just some thoughts of what could have happened. So sorry they didn't turn out for you. If you have any other thoughts or questions, please let me know. Happy to help try to figure out what could have happened. Thanks!
