I don't know about you, but buying fruit in my house is a chore. Don't get me wrong - we LOVE fruit, but it seems when I bring it home and put it in the fruit bowl it becomes invisible! This drives me nuts! I don't like wasting food, so when fruit goes bad I get a little annoyed!
Don and I were shopping at a local warehouse store recently, when he announced he wanted apples! Out of the blue he says, "I'm going to pick up some apples." I gave him a look that said "are you kidding me?" He knew exactly why I wasn't on board with buying apples in bulk and started assuring me he would eat them and they wouldn't go bad. Yeah, right! I'll believe it when I see it!!
So he set out to pick the perfect apples and came back with a ginormous bagful. He was so excited! I, on the other hand, was already planning what to do with the apples before they went bad! Thus my plan to make apple chips was hatched!
What do ya know?! Don made good on his promise to eat all the apples! He took them to work each day and those apples were gone before they could even think about going bad! How 'bout that?! He even ate them all before I could make my apple chips, but seeing as this plan was already formulated in my mind, nothing was stopping me!
You see I have an addiction to caramel and once I had it in my mind, I couldn't get rid of it! It's a serious problem y'all! I HAD to have some caramel, which meant I HAD to have a good reason to make the caramel! So I bought some apples and this happened...yumminess!

Apple Chips with Salted Caramel
Published 07/31/2014
Ingredients
- 2 Golden Delicious apples, thinly sliced (I leave the core intact and use a Mandoline to slice the apples thinly)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salted Caramel Sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 225 degrees F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. I like to use the Parchment Sheets . They are so convenient!
- Place apple slices in a single layer onto Baking Sheets . Mix 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle over apples trying to coat them evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour and then turn each apple slice over and bake for an additional hour or until the apples are dried and the edges are curling. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack .
- While the apples are baking you'll have plenty of time to make my Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe. Serve the apples with the dipping sauce and enjoy!
